Who
we are
Betton
Hills Preparatory School is a nondenominational, coeducational day school
enrolling students in its Academic Preschool, Elementary
School, and Middle School. Our families receive extra support in our After school/study hall programs. Betton Hills Preparatory School was founded in
1989 by Ilona Faust. Mrs. Faust has realized her vision of a safe, nurturing environment in which each child
develops his or her full potential. The result is a balance of intellectual,
moral, emotional, physical, and creative development.

Where we are
The
campus is located in Tallahassee, Florida’s lovely state capitol. The
Tallahassee area provides opportunities for direct learning in history, culture,
government, natural sciences, art, music, and theatre. Our proximity to Florida
State University, Florida A & M University, and Tallahassee Community
College provides additional instructional resources for preschool through eighth
grade.

Our
Curriculum
The
curriculum at BHPS is unique in that it combines the Sunshine State Standards
with the Core Knowledge® Curriculum. This strong academic platform
supports expression through creativity. This combination exposes students
to everything they need to achieve a working
knowledge of the world. This broader vision insures that our students
perform well in standardized tests of knowledge in mathematics, science,
language arts, and social studies. Our scores are very strong, yet we have never
had to “teach to the test”.

Arts
and Sciences
All
BHPS students participate in creative activities like visual arts, drama, music,
and creative writing. Our curriculum requires students to creatively
express their knowledge of mathematics, science, language arts, and social
studies. The skills gained in creative expression enable our children to speak
well, to present themselves with composure, and to communicate effectively with
writing and graphics. The students achievements are manifest in the Season of
Arts and Sciences, a year-long program of theatre and music performances,
art shows, and the science fair. These events are open to the public and receive
wide support from the business community as well.

Technology
Betton
Hills Preparatory School uses technology-based instruction with the curriculum
whenever it provides a unique capability or a real advantage over traditional
instructional methods. We recognize that technological literacy is an essential
tool for modern life, and so we give students the opportunity to use computer for obtaining
information and generating ideas.

Physical
Education and Sports
All
students take physical education classes that are tuned to age and ability.
Students often use their free time for athletic games, but always under
supervision. Starting this year, we are offering seasonal sports
activities in
baseball, softball, soccer, and cheerleading. We also direct our
families toward the rich variety of youth sports programs available elsewhere in
the Tallahassee region, and link with those programs when we can.

Character
Development
Betton
Hills Preparatory School teaches the social values of love, courtesy, respect,
cooperation, empathy, and compassion. We practice them in every school activity.
The outcome we see in the children is a steady growth in security, personal
responsibility, self-confidence, and effectiveness in social interactions.

The
Betton Hills Family
Parent
involvement virtually insures a child’s academic success. Parents who also
contribute to the Season of Arts and Sciences, and to the PTO-sponsored Season of Service, get an extra measure of satisfaction for
themselves: they enable the school to do its job better. Parent
volunteers work in the good company of each other and school staff. Parents and
their children experience a real sense of family at Betton Hills School.
