Curriculum

Betton Hills maintains a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum.  It is a very exciting and unique way of teaching and learning, combining Sunshine State Standards and the Core Knowledge curriculum developed by E. D. Hirsch, Jr. (a professor of Education and Humanities at the University of Virginia).

 Core Knowledge Is...

  • a solid, sequenced, specific, and shared knowledge
  • the foundation in the early grades when children are most receptive
  • preparation for a lifetime of learning
  • "a necessary foundation for higher order reading, writing, and thinking skills"
    - E. D. Hirsch Jr.
  • knowledge widely used by competent writers and speakers
  • a knowledge that makes people competent, regardless of race, class, religion, or ethnicity
  • the gateway to cultural literacy
  • "the common ground for uncommon success"
    - The Core Knowledge Foundation
